Tea Party Bags Bob Bennett!
UPDATE: I'm seeing a lot of reports in the MSM and blogs that Bennett was "driven" from office.
This is exactly why this election will be such an important referendum on incumbency.
Bennett was not "driven" from office. His term was not renewed, by his constituents, at whose pleasure he serves. This is exactly how it is supposed to work.
Bob Bennett has, had, no right nor title to the office of Senator for the State Of Utah. None of these barnacle-encrusted ingrown fossils does. Yet they act like they do, and the toadying media treats their tenure as a done deal, and these "public servants" feel no qualms about gerrymandering districts or ruining the reputations and lives of good men and women who challenge them, to pass their fiefs on to their handpicked successors or even children.
The best of them are engaged in a comprehensive betrayal of the trust of the people who sent them to Washington anytime they go along with this corrupt thieving DC system. The worst of them are indulging in an organized criminal conspiracy against the citizenry that Ferdinand Marcos could only dream of emulating... and there are far more of the worst than the best.
The people of Utah told Bennet exactly how they wanted him to vote on major issues. He ignored their will and now it has, rightly, cost him his employment.

Utah's sitting senator, Bob Bennett, lost his bid for re-election after being eliminated in the second round of balloting at the GOP state convention, the AP is reporting.
"It's time to get rid of the incumbents," said Kyle Hosman, a 39-year-old North Ogden delegate supporting (GOP candidate Mike) Lee. "Quite frankly I'm disgusted by what I've seen in Congress the past 10 years."
The defining trend of this election as a referendum on incumbency itself continues.

GOP primary candidate David Benning, one of several campaigning in the GOP primary to run against Henry Waxman, attended the April 15 San Fernando Valley Patriots Tea Party tax protest in Woodland Hills on April 15th...
... or rather, he graciously decided to let them attend him. According to attendees at the rally, marchers were called away from the demonstration along the road for what was described as a speech by the party organizers. Instead they were 'treated' --briefly, before most walked away -- to an aborted campaign speech by Benning, whose supporters apparently decided they could call the Tea Partiers away from their scheduled, announced activity in mid-event to listen to their candidate. Benning was subsequently conspicuous from his absence among the marchers.
Several of the marchers attending loudly expressed the opinion that they had been disrespected by Benning and his staff.
Other GOP politicians have reached out to the Tea Party movement in Los Angeles, among them Ari David, also running to run against Waxman. Most other candidates however, see the sense and good manners in walking among the demonstrators and acting like a guest at their event, rather than assuming they are its point.
It was a weirdly tone-deaf gesture on the part of the Benning campaign; Benning himself has managed campaigns for other candidates and should have known better. But it is a useful indicator of character for GOP voters come the primary.

Mikey, it's nice that you're talking tough to a Democrat who's already doomed in his home state. It would be nicer if the national GOP organization wasn't spending its every waking moment trying to shove DIABLO's (Democrats In All But Label Only) down our throats in state after state. Whether you're talking about Scozzafava in New York, Crist in Florida, Fiorina in California, Kirk in Illinois or Norton in Colorado, get this straight: NOBODY ASKED YOU. You don't tell us who our candidates will be, WE THE PEOPLE tell you and you go to work for us to make it happen. This is not a difficult concept to grasp.
You have been behind the curve on EVERY major development in Republican politics since you took office. When the Gang of Eight betrayed their party and country not only did they go unpunished, you rewarded Kirk with a fast track to a Senate campaign. You scorned the Tea Parties and talked about how you were "confident" the GOP could "mitigate" the health care disaster. Well, you didn't and now the Tea Party is reaping the interest and support our party should have. Even GOP candidates across the country are courting them behind your back, because THEY understand that that IS or SHOULD BE your base.
You keep churning out the same cookie-cutter 'moderate' candidates across the country, even though when you ran the ultimate 'moderate' John McCain, you got slaughtered. Now he's talking tough to the Obama he once kissed up to but you haven't got the message yet.
You publish a book of "Republican Principles" clipped from the e-mails of your angry base, but you do nothing to live up to them.. You care more about stuffing the RNC offices with your relatives and cronies than you do about stuffing the Congress with true Republicans who will turn this country around.
You tell us to either stop complaining or fire you. Believe me, we would... but WE never hired you in the first place.
You had better wake up and realize that this coming election is not going to be a referendum on party but incumbency. If you don't figure this out soon, the voters are going to realize they don't need the GOP machine dragging them down.
Sink or swim, Mr. Steele but you will not drag us down with you.
