The Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission held that the reported marriage of a teenager with his teacher has no sanctity and hence, declared it null and void.
It directed the Warangal police to file a non-bailable case against the teacher, D Ramyasri, 21, for marrying SSC student Nagesh, 15. It also asked the police to press charges against the priest and other staff of a temple at Yadagirigutta where the duo reportedly married on Feb 15.
The school teacher and her minor student-husband with whom she had eloped and married were produced before SHRC chairperson Justice B Subashan Reddy on Saturday.
"This act of marriage on part of the teacher is not only immoral but is palpably illegal, being a flagrant violation of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act of 2006. It also shows the slackness of the executives concerned in implementation of the laws," Justice Reddy said.
The Nalgonda district SP was told to take action on the priest of the temple who was responsible for performing the marriage of the duo.
