he big-spending owner of Chelsea Football Club, Roman Abramovich, recently got a lunch bill totaling nearly $55,000 at an outing in New York City. The cost is almost equal to the United States' per capita GDP.
The celebrity gossip website TMZ.com reported on Oct. 31 that he spent $47,221.09, tip not included, at Nello's.
According to the report, there were 10 people at the table. On the bill were white truffles, filet mignon and a wine.
The check did not include an automatic 20 percent tip, which would add another $7,328 to the check. Not shy of spending money, the billionaire threw down a 26 percent tip, 6 percent more than what was required.
The bill easily broke Nello's previous lunch record, which had been occupied by Jay-Z's $1,700 lunch just days before.
