Whitman, Brown in Dead Heat? Two Polls, Early Voting Returns Say Yes.

Surveys conducted by Hill Research Consultants and McLaughlin & Associates.  In a survey conducted on October 26 and 27, the race for the CA governorship is tied 43-43% with 4% voting third party and 10% undecided.

In a second survey by McLaughlin and Associates, from October 25-27, Whitman leads 44-43% withn 6% third-party and the remainder undecided.

In early voting returns, a McLaughlin survey on 10/28 showed 25% of polled voters already voting by absentee.  Whitman leads among these voters 43-40%.  Another 27% stated they would vote by mail Friday and Saturday; Whitman leads among these 48% to 43%.  Among those voting on Election Day, it is a virtual tie at 43% Whitman and 45% Brown.

It's now official: Meg Whitman cannot win the race for Governor in California.  Cheney's endorsement will make her toxic to the independents and wavering Democrats the GOP needs to win the governorship in CA.


I'm not sure what the mechanism behind this decision  is, but it works for Poizner any way you can posit it:


Cheney's endorsement is simply bought and paid for: plain old business as usual corrupt politics?


An embittered Cheney sticking a finger in the eye of the party he feels abandoned him., and Meg Whitman is the best way to pay the GOP back?


An act  of careless inconsideration, from a man who doesn't have a rep for same?


Or a brilliant piece of counterintuitive strategy from the Evil Schemer Mastermind of theVRWC, who knows just what it will take to ruin Whitman's chances?

New Jersey -- Republican governor, in spite of everything Obama and SEIU could do to save it for Corzine... and by a higher margin than the Republicans took the office in 1993.

Virginia -- Republican, from the Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General, and on down deep into the political structure of the state... and by a higher margin than Republicans took the office in 1993.

New York -- The GOP powerbrokers in the state and the NRCC humiliated by a spontaneous uprising of the base and the defection of their own million-dollar handpicked candidate (OUR million dollars, Republican voters) to the opposition party. Slow Joe Biden couldn't even fill a hall.

This was a good night for conservatives, GOP or independent. We won, against the Obama machine and the ineptitude and corruption of our own leadership. We won, because the voters heard the Democrat message and ours and chose ours.

SF Mayor Gavin Newsom Ends Run for CA Governor

The coke-snorting mayor whose arrogant Prop 8 commercial did more to guarantee that measure's passage than anything else in either campaign --

Strange. You would have thought cocksure stupidity, bigotry and a track record of having turned a jewel of a city into an open-air toilet for transients would have been a cast-iron foundation for a uniter like Newsom to build on.
