Wonderful Wednesday!

One of the main reasons I love Wednesday is because every week we have a half day! What's not to love about that? So today was a great, short work day. Hank leaves for a super small tour (I don't know if I'd even consider it a tour) tomorrow morning, and here's their schedule...

Dec. 3rd in Fullerton, CA
Dec. 4th in San Francisco, CA
Dec. 5th in Escondido, CA
Dec. 6th in Murrietta, CA

Let me know if any of you would like to go to any of the shows! Like I mentioned before, I was thinking of going with them, but couldn't take off three days so close to the end of the semester to accommodate that schedule. It should be a really fun time! Oh, and if you are a new reader, one of the bands my husband Hank is in is called Hour of the Wolf- he plays guitar.

Here are some random photos from today! :)

If you remember my most recent nail polish post about a week or two ago, here's a photo of Essie's "Mint Candy Apple" in action! I love this color so much.

And...a few days back I posted about this bag. Although Hank and I aren't currently expecting a little one, I have been wanting this bag forever, and years ago I even wanted to buy it and put it aside. Now that we are much closer to actually needing a diaper bag (not quite yet, but close), it was a totally justifiable purchase in my mind. Haha. Thankfully Hank agreed! So here it is, and away into our closet it goes until we eventually need it. Some may think that is silly, but I know that whenever that time comes, if this bag wasn't available I would be really sad!

super cute.

Here's a photo that also includes the vinyl changing pad- the inside is vinyl as well.

I couldn't resist!

Annd, the best photo of all- today I held a baby rat! I am usually scared of all rodent creatures but this one was very tiny and very sweet. It belonged to one of my students.

baby rat!

The rest of my night is going to be spent proofreading a bunch of Hank's papers for his final exams, babysitting for a friend, getting some new things put away in my closet, going to the gym, and packing for my mini trip this weekend! Since I'm going to be having a bit of a quiet night tonight, I thought I would make a small playlist of good "quiet winter evening" songs! Some aren't as quiet as others, but they still put me in the same kind of mood. Enjoy!

Better day!

better day today! :)

Today was a much, much better day and I have to really thank all of you who took the time to write me such sweet, thoughtful comments. You girls are the best, really. So yes, today was a good one! I woke up kind of early, but then decided to spend the extra time I would have gained hugging Hank extra tight while he slept. So alas, I wasn't as early to work as I would have hoped but I was on time none the less. The day went by without a problem, and yesterday's incident was totally taken care of. I was completely supported by the administration and my lovely teacher friends, and said student is no longer in my class for the remainder of the year. How's that for a solution?! I am really happy. And to add to that, one of my students came up and said the nicest thing to me that really made me smile. Maybe this "bad" day was so important so all of my great days seem that much greater. I think so.

I got home from work around 3:30 and I've been catching up on emails and what not. I decided to go ahead and take a personal day off from work on Friday, which I am really happy about. Then I just have one full week, and another week of half days. Then...two full, paid weeks off for the holidays! I can't wait. We usually take a trip during the winter holidays, but this year we are staying here and I'm actually really happy. I am craving the beaches of Hawaii like I always seem to do this time of the year, but it will be nice to really relax and stay home this season.

I just tried to make a Christmas list, but I got sidetracked when I realized it may take me longer than I thought. So I will work on that and post it whenever I finish it. In the meantime, I just threw together this little collage of the things on my list to get from Anthropologie right now. A certain best friend of mine works there, and I am blessed with having my own discount card. I feel very lucky about this, and even more so because it is F&F week, so my discount is even better. Here are the four clothing items I think I am going to have to get, and thanks to generous gift cards from Autumn, Shirls, Erin and Alana, I am able to do just that! (thanks sweet friends!) The jacket is kind of a maybe, since I have enough coats, but that bow is too darling to pass up. I got excited and just I thought I would share my little collage! hah.

for my blog- Anthropologie "wants"

Tomorrow is our usual half day at school (every Wednesday is) and then Hank and I have our weekly pie and politics evening at his Grandma's house. I always look forward to it and it is always a good time. The rest of my night will be filled with the gym and getting my workout on! Since I skipped yesterday I am excited to get in there. I hope all of you have a wonderful night!

xoxo

Good morning!

Amber Joy is here, and we slept upstairs in my old bedroom (we're at my parents'), so Hank graciously took the couch. I walked downstairs on my way to the gym this morning and found poor Hank asleep with Martine, my sister's chihuahua, sitting on his head! It was too cute.

how i found hank and martine!

Here's my view from the elliptical this morning!

my morning view

And I came home to a delicious breakfast- Trader Joe's almond butter and organic blueberry spread on Ezekial cinna-raisin toast. This is the first time I've tried the blueberry (I usually do the rasberry or cherry), and it was truly delicious! This spread is particularly good because it's only 30 cal per tablespoon, with no added sugar or ingredients. It's super chock full of fruit and so so good. Go get some! I also love the orange/apricot flavor.

so good

Wonderful Wednesday

Today was a good day, even though I woke up on the complete wrong, wrong, wrong side of the bed. This is unlike me, because I find great pleasure in (annoyingly, I'll admit) hopping out of bed at 4:30am shouting "Good morning!" to anyone within earshot. I am a total morning person. This morning I was due at the gym at 5am, but my inner-grump woke up PISSED and reset my alarm until 8am. Awesome. Missed my morning cardio and didn't have time to recurl my hair. Regardless of the time though, I still woke up angry and this didn't dissipate until, oh, 12pm or so. I'm in a great mood now though, so I guess that's what matters, right?

The day was spent at work of course, winding down the last two weeks before my glorious 3-month summer vacation. Kids are antsy, which makes for an interesting classroom, but all went well today. Jenn and I took our 4th periods outside to read and got to leave a bit early to go out to lunch for yummy sandwiches. We have half days each and every Wednesday (it's a hard life, I know), but after school was over we had a completely ridiculous meeting that wasted everyone's time. I was so glad to be out of there by the time it was over.

After work I got in a great workout, then headed to Hank's Grandma's for dinner. Hung out with Jenn for a bit, and now I am here. So overall the day turned around quite a bit, which I'm pretty happy about.

So looking forward, I have a lot coming up over the next few weeks, and that always makes time go by quickly and happily. When we're in NY I will be spending time with Em and I am so, so excited for that. I also hope to go back on my own sometime after to spend more time with her. Before NJ and NY though, is Vermont, which is my favorite state in the US. My Auntie El lives on Lake Champlain which is the most beautiful location in the world. We will be spending our time on one of their boats, sailing around the lake, trail running, eating amazing food, and just basically spending a week in my personal heaven (aka her home). Lauren and I are super excited because Hank has never been there, which blows my mind! He's going to fall in love and want to move there, I swear.

Bedtime for me now, the gym is calling my name again at 5am. I have been so motivated this week and I can tell a difference already. Stoked!

Sunday evening- weekend rundown

What a lovely weekend! Hank and I headed down to Phoenix Friday night, stopping at Green for dinner and Yogurtland for dessert. Yogurtland is one of our favorite yogurt places that we first tried in Long Beach- Autumn has one right down the street from her house and when we visit we will usually walk down there once a day (sometimes even twice!). I usually just get the tart flavor and add various fruits, and Hank prefers the sweeter flavors, like cheesecake. We headed to my parents' home afterwards and spent some time with the family before heading to bed.

our fave long beach yogurt shop is in tempe now, yay!

Saturday morning Hank had a haircut at Erika's, and next to her place is a little comic book store...and we forgot it was free comic book day! Hank was stoked.

happy in tempe this morning

After hair and comics, we decided to do some shopping and headed to Nordstrom and other various stores. It's so hard for me to control myself in Anthropologie- I want about 6 dresses in there right now, but I keep thinking about our vacation coming up and how I know I'll want to spend my money in other places, including vintage in Vermont (sounds odd I know, but so good) and NYC.

We got home, had a great workout, and started getting ready for our evening at Shirley's event, Viva Las Vegas at City North in Scottsdale. The event was for charity, and the money went to various children's foundations in the Valley. Tickets were $75 per person and there were so, so many people there so I'm sure they made a wonderful amount! Autumn and Jason flew in for the weekend, and almost everyone was in one place. It was so nice. Autumn also told me the good news that she will be flying in for my birthday party (Shirley's bday party is the next night too, we planned it perfectly!). It just warms my heart to be around these girls, they've been my best friends for almost 10 years now and are truly the best friends. Autumn lives in another state, but makes a point to visit Prescott, and Shirley is the same. All of the girls in our group also make it a point to always be happy for one another, we are all so different but always celebrate each other successes. That's not always the case in my experience and when I get down, I know I always have these girls there for me to remind me of what a friend is. Having people in your life that really know you, know where you've been, know all the funny stories in your life from years and years ago- that's amazing. And I cherish that so much. We shared our college experience together, most of us lived together, etc, and they've seen it all. They have been there for me through thick and thin, are so positive, and I appreciate them more than they'll ever know.

And on a side note too, recently I've been getting back in touch with some old friends from high school and it makes me so happy to see them so happy in their new, adult lives! It's funny because we all used to be quite the wild bunch of girls, but now we're all grown up, most of us married, many of them with children...and it's so touching to know we still have a common bond. Some of those girls have been with me through all of my crazy phases in high school, they were right beside me doing way too much partying, having insane adventures, and I love that we have all these silly, crazy memories. I've been having fun catching up with a bunch of them and I love it. I could go on about this, but back to the weekend!

So, the entire night was amazing. Tons of restaurants set up booths and tables, giving out food, drinks...and cupcakes! There were three cupcake tables from different vendors, ice cream tables, gelato. SO GOOD. Sushi was in abundance too, which I loved of course. We spent the night sampling different food and drinks while the guys gambled at the black jack and roulette tables. There was a silent auction, raffle, etc which was great as well. Overall, it was a wonderful evening with hundreds and hundreds of people in attendance, dressed up and supporting a good cause. Yay Shirley for putting on such a successful event!

After a late night, this morning was a bit of a slow start but I ended up having one of the best workouts I've had in awhile. I am getting back into the swing of things with my weights (one of my fave parts about working out - I am a self-professed cardio junkie but weights are necessary to see real change, and plus I love lifting), and I worked my chest, back, and abs this morning. I was doing P90X for awhile, but I need to be in the gym to stay motivated. In effect, my weights have been slacking and I can totally tell the difference in my muscle tone. My legs are the same because they're naturally pretty toned/athletic, but even in photos I can see that my shoulders, chest and arms are not the same as they were. Yuck! So, back to the weight room I go, like normal. I will be on the beach for 3 weeks, in about 3 weeks, which is just enough time to fix what needs fixing! Luckily my bod responds quickly to weight training, and I will never make this mistake again. Tomorrow I start my 2-a-day workouts during the school week (cardio in the AM and light cardio/weights in the PM). I have about 5 more pounds to lose to reach my goal weight, although this may change as I lift more. In my mind I'd actually like to weigh 10 pounds less but I know that's not healthy for me so I need to just stop those thoughts right away. Anyway, this was boring talk I am sure but thanks for reading.

Tomorrow also begins the official countdown towards the last day of school! I am taking a day off next week, so I officially have 12 work days left! I am so happy. Soooo happy! I love teaching, and the summers really, really add to the happiness I feel about my profession. Talk about a PMA going into the last couple of weeks of school!

I'll leave you with some photos of the event Saturday night- you can click on any of them to take you to my Flickr, where I have about 45 more!

Have a beautiful night sweet blogger friends!
