I Love Money premiered on 06/07/08. Season 2 premiered 02/02/09. Needless to say season 3 will premiere this year and since production is yet to start Thrill Fiction will chart the eligible contestants from Flavor of Love and the spin offs (hitherto known as The Franchise) for your reading pleasure.
The have-no talent reality TV pond is teeming with low life and high hopes. The Franchise gave Z-list lifestyles to girls and boys whom no one remembers - Ears? Choclate? - as well as to those who may well have burnt their bridges Cherry, Knock-Out – not to be confused with K.O.- and my favourite Crazy/Heather/Naeveh the delusional.
Others like Goldie Punk and Deelishis appear to have moved on but light a candle for the ones who had such a torrid time it's unlikely they watch television anymore. The sweet Payshintz the dullard Pretty the dopey Kami and the beat up beat down H-Town.
There is a vast majority available to be made fools of. Again.
Some of them could even excite the viewers. Some could go further and actually entertain us. There could be a spot for a new Megan. Remember her? She hardly got to say her lines in Brett's boring second season because it was dominated by Kristy 'crackpot' Jo. Megan's now a Trophy Wife. Coming soon.
There are almost 150 women to choose from. They may not be marriage material but they've got to love money. Any selection from the following will guarantee at least one fist fight at the reunion.
A-Bomb Soon to get her own show. If Vh1 put their 51 Minds to it.
Farrah The new Heather. The Heat to A-Bomb's 12 Pack. These two together can make a middle aged rocker whine like a neglected bitch on the track.
Brittanya because someone has to throw the first punch.
Marcia will ensure there's no possibility of tequila going to waste.
DJ Lady Tribe The nutcase factor. A lack of self awareness is a hot mess to behold.
Gia Give the girl a chance to redeem herself. The way Toastee did. Did not.
Feisty has already got a campaign going.
Cocktail is up for anything in front of the camera. For example Ray J.
Rabbit Bourgy eye candy.
Bubbles An ideal candidate to fill the Tamara spot. If it gets dull just shine a light on Minnie Mouse.
Ki KiGhetto madness export to Mexico. Yankee revenge for Sureños.
So HoodShe can fill in the Frenchie role and molest one of the boys.
Roxy'cause she didn't get a chance with that geriatric 80s rocker. Good girl.
Sinceer She will bring it – bluster. A lot of that but a lot of game too. She'd form an alliance then backstab them at the right time. Klingons are smart.
Black The video ho factor
Buckeey Her videotape exploits would bring in a whole new demographic.
BootzThrow a dildo shaped ice sculpture into a women's prison and watch the Bootz effect.
SpunkeeyLasted three episodes – enough time to display all her snitching bitching stirring phoney faces. No. She's got more than that.
Hottie Mentally challenged people skanks should be given equal opportunity to appear on reality TV as other skanks.
Serious because I hate it when a girl is misunderstood.
The Men
I
It's been noted before that the well is not as deep as it is for the women. 21st century boy is trying his lame best to catch up on the skank-o-scale.
PootieIf he's available. He could be in the bighouse. Or the nuthouse.
Romance If he's available. He could have bought a new petting dog.
RicoQuite frankly I'm surprised he wasn't in season 1 or 2. Nibblez was.
12 PackWhy the French not?
White BoyTo go head to head against 12 Pack.
TokenThere's game in that kid.
Season 2
Mr WiseIf White Boy declines.
Undoubtedly there'll be a gaggle of lame rocker wannabes from Daisy of Love. Hopefully the shirt and ties from Trophy Wife will be barred. If cast correctly like season 1 there could be a new celebreality star in the makes.
Due to the events depicted in I Love Money 207 Thrill Fiction will delay the forthcoming post I Love Money 3: The (Wish List)Cast until this weekend Saturday 21-03-09. What now follows is an examination of the Old Gold alliance before the broadcast of their impending fracture (episode 208).
Der Untergang
Bonez was voted off Monday night. The TMF alliance is being squeezed like orange juice. It's Survivor. Or Big Brother. With black people.
You know the expression 'too good to be true'. When everything is going swell why not muck it up for yourself? It's too good to be true.
With my pulse on self destruct.
The OG inevitable implosion airs next week. The fallout will prove more interesting. Saaphyri reminds me of the cock of the girl's school; the tough chick's undoing will be a boy. The unlikely It has sexed his way into her drawbridge.
Poor Baby. With her bluster she's never going to be able to keep the kind of man she wants. She will have to settle for the kind of man she despises. 'Tis the lament of many. However that remains to be seen in her married future. For now It is strategically straddling that pony.
Becky Buckwild and Saaphyri went to CharmSchool together and as the season progressed you could see a friendship bloom. Their bond looks to be tighter than reality TV but can it be tighter than $250 grand? If they continue this way by rights one of them should win the money.
The spanner in the works is Frank. The Entertainer still lives at home in his parent's basement getting bawled out by ma and being laughed at by pa. Not that there's anything wrong with that. But. At 31 years old it equates to lethargy.
Frank may well have the body of a stud and the charisma of a neighbourhood champion but he's got no ambition. Desire? Everybody wants something. Ambition? Not everybody wants to pay full price. Living underneath your parents is another way of copping out.
The Entertainer is going to screw himself (and the OG) because he's got the social maturity of a 6 year old. He's a spoilt brat. He's a bully. There's no one to stop him because sans Buddha Onix and T-Weed he has the body of a bull stud.
If Frank is the spanner in the works then Cali is the fly on the windscreen. She made her powerless move this week. She betrayed the girl who saved her.
Turning on your benefactor is an acceptable chess move in these types of shows - sometimes it's downright necessary – but Cali acted out of fear and cowardice. No strategy.
Saaphyri confronted her and she crumbled like The Republican Guard. I don't know why Frank has her back. Maybe he fancies her - he finds Buckwild attractive - but she is the neon sign of the OG demise. She's not worth it. The other OG members should see this and squeeze her. TMF rightly despise her. This coward will die a coward's death. No one will mourn.
An episode of I Love Money 2 approximately 45 mins sans commercials is filmed over 2 days. There's a lot of time that didn't make the edit. What we're shown is a snapshot – hardly enough to make an accurate impression - a manipulative edit (for the purposes of entertainment). Ergo it's hard to call 20p. He's front and centre but always behind Frank. He hasn't made any power moves and when given the opportunity he balked. 20p has shown the mental strength of an advanced Cali which in a civilised society would get him special parking privileges. He'd not overrated. He's just overstaying his welcome.
As for Frenchie she's shown she can negotiate the social aspects of this game by harassing a card carrying metrosexual. She's not a dark horse not even a French one but she will be essential to repairing the damage of the coming Frank-Saaphyri rift.
A rift that is a lifeline to TMF. Tailor Made is sharp enough to exploit it. It's his only chance to stay and win $¼million.
We started with nineteen and now (episode 206) we're left with twelve. The Heat fizzled on his way out. He's gone home to his yaya and baba and wah-wah-wah. Perhaps he's gone back to the Party Boys - stripping. Alone. Because his partner in drinking and disrobing is on Daisy of Love.
THE TAILOR MADE ALLIANCE
Now known as TMF (as in Tailor Made & Friends). When the spineless stand up to the mindless the results should be hidden from children. Becky Buckwild wants to kill Tailor Made. 20 Pack (20p) spits on (the ground before) the Gold team and Saaphyri and Frank are seething. The reality TV lines are drawn (but not yet quartered). What hope for TMF? Tailor Made The leader. Gulp(!) It was his idea to form a counter alliance but he couldn't lead a stripper to an ATM. With his mind but lack of spine (I♥NY 204) he should be the consigliere. Alas there's no one else to take the lead this could be their major problem. The OG's are united and focussed in their hatred. For him. If he can't lead TMF they'll likely abandon him to the OG furies while they're begging for mercy and $250k.
Prancer The best looking girl on the show did not get early eviction (unlike Survivor). She's in it to win. Roller girl with a plan. Hark; she arrives on set with no natural ally. The two other girls from FOL3 - Ice (ep 303) and Myammee (306) - got bamboozled on that show. By Prancer. Myammee especially plain does not like her. So instead of trying to latch onto a larger group Prancer best friends another solo – Cali. By 205 the twosome had engineered a swerve that put them in a power spot. By 206 Prancer swing voted the OG's into the box. So now that she's played her cards are her magic powers over? She's still got Cali.
Cali I thought she was brain dead in Real Chance of Love now I know she's brain dead. She hasn't made any power moves as yet because Prancer's doing the thinking for her. Someone has to. Sort of like a symbiotic relationship. Sort of like a leech. She's bumbled into a good position though because so long as the OG's don't know about her TMF card she's in with a shot. Until Prancer leaves. Saaphyri may well suspect them but she's too busy with her team trying to genocide Tailor Made. First to go after the 'merge'.
Myammee The best looking woman in the show. Yet overrated. Her meeting of minds with Prancer was cool her suggestion they keep it on the dl was cooler. Despite that her position is precarious. It's self induced. Myammee doesn't like Saaphyri: Jealous of her alpha-bitch spot. Once the OG queen realises this Myammee is in Florida. If she wants to stay in Mexico she's going to have to stay away from Ms Windsor.
Bonez Everybody's favourite nice guy because everybody thinks they'll finish better than him. He's not perceived as a threat to anyone because he's so nice. And skinny. Buddha stood up for him when T-weed got in his face. Who's going to stand up for him when Buckwild has a turn? A man with no game. You're on the wrong show Bonez. Give Seacrest a call. He's looking for momma's boys.
Ice or the Midwest Buckwild. Like her/don't like her Becky brings comedy. Ice brings orders at Hooters but nothing on TV. Her accent changes depending on who she's talking to. Check out 205 when she was scheming with Tailor Made. In the mangled words of Flavor Flav "Where the fuck did your accent go?" With her. Back to Chicago. Soon.
Which leave us with It. And his shtick. That dude's whole persona is a construct. And I like it. Do I think he's an idiot like New York does? Like Frank does? Last season it was episode 107 when Craig dissolved the teams. If It is still around next week he'll be in a position to flip the whole game. If he joins the TMF alliance it would make him their strongest physical player and potential/de facto leader. That would protect him in the vault and could take him to the top four. To win.
If Daisy of Love got commissioned why the hell not Love A-Bomb? Or something with a lame title like For The Love of Ashley. Farrah can be exiled to Charm School Gives Back. Then promoted to I Love Money 3. She is the new Heather didn't you know?
When I♥$2 opened did anyone wonder where the French was 12 Pack? If The Entertainer and Heat were allowed to return why not the other Party Boy? He proved in season 1 he was an alpha-male (amongst reality TV starlets) and he had a boy-meets-stripper bang bang with Heather. I thought 51 Minds would reward him. But with Daisy de la Hoya? That silicone Barbie train wreck is a low reference point. Don't believe me? Look at CC or Bret or Charles. Or Heather.
As Romance told New York so TV history tells Daisy: 12 Pack is not looking for (Daisy of) love. There's a clothing line to promote. So if a New Jersey meathead didn't fancy a Noo Yawker how is he going to fancy a tattooed surgery-Frenched Cali fruit loop? We saw 12 Pack's taste pre Celebreality; that plain looking Jane on I♥NY 107. That is 12 Pack's speed. Oh yeah he's a man. He'd bang a bus if it wore stilettos. He banged Heather. But they had lots to talk about. They're both strippers.
Point is We the Viewers know. 12 Pack isn't there for love. Thus the suspension of disbelief is broken. So soon after I mentioned it Vh1 and 51 Minds jump into lazyboy casting. They may well jump the shark but I don't want to jump the gun. The show is yet to air. It could be good. In a tattoo-trash sort of way.
Daisy of Love starts 26th April. Starring everyone's favourite French (fry) up Daisy de la Hoya.
When The Real World was first broadcast on MTV in 1992 little did the networks realise - no one can predict tomorrow's headline - it was the dawn of the Reality TV era.
These are the barbarians at the gate. The fall of the Roman Empire. The end of televised civilization (before Youtube). This meant that ordinary people – gasp! – could appear inside the electronic worship box. They could become famous. Without a SAG card.
Here in the UK this was exemplified in 2000 with the advent of Big Brother. If The Real World was the fornication Big Brother is the bastard child.
Or love child.
Reality TV is more a dirty secret than a guilty pleasure. The bourgeois deride it. The critics decry it and men deny it (except for The Ultimate Fighter). Why the stigma?
These were bad for you:
Britney and Kevin: Chaotic
My Big Fat Obnoxious Wedding
Celebrity Farm
Back To Reality
CelebrityLoveIsland
Love Cruise
Shalom In The House
TemptationIsland
Age of Love
Filthy Rich Cattle Drive
Shattered
Totally Scott- Lee
Paris Hilton
The list of 17 years of dross is so exhaustive the remote control wouldn't work.
Back in 2003 then UK Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell said she hoped for a viewer's revolt and warned the industry that the genre was being ‘flogged to death‘. The latter remains true six years later. Yet even before the turn of the century critics were predicting the end of reality. So while it's true that trash like Big Brother (UK) is on a respirator VH1 is on an all time high. Enter Celebreality.
Reality television is generally accepted to include behemoths like American Idol and on this side of the water The X-Factor. However these are talent shows. Survivor and The Amazing Race, two more behemoths, are game shows. Reality television as meant is an alternative and competition to scripted drama. Ergo reality TV is unscripted drama.
Herein lays the source of derision. Ordinary people are pushing card carrying talent off the gravy train and the reason why it's so successful is because scripted drama sucks!
There are of course must-watch exceptions – HBO's The Wire HBO's Generation Kill HBO's True Blood – but for the hours invested watching scripted drama the entertainment return is abysmal. This could be the fault of the writers and producers but I blame the public. If we didn't sit in front of the goggle box and gawp at NCISit wouldn't be renewed.
Reality TV on the other hand is unpretentious. It is vaudeville for the ipod generation (I clock in at generation X). The most the Flavor of Love franchise/spin-offs can hope for is to make us laugh. This is what they do. Despite the sometimes obvious production manipulation.
Scripted TV is contrived obvious and fraudulent. In many cases it breaks the rules it's laid down for us. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles 204 is a perfect example. Reality TV is contrived obvious and fraudulent. Paradoxically it doesn't aspire to be otherwise.
We know CharmSchool wasn't about bettering strippers. Sharon Osbourne let us in on the joke even if Mo'Nique didn't. Flavor of Love wasn't about Flav finding 'the One'. New York found that out quick enough. And the Rock of Love Bus is just an aging rocker's ego trip. Funny though.
In I Love New York was Tiffany really looking to find someone? I think she was. But she soon got cured of that. New York Goes to Hollywood was abysmal by the way - a perfect example of contrived reality. You could see the set-ups in the script. In Real Chance of Love the boys were clued up – it was rappers in a strip club time.
I love Money is more reality than game show. The all-starlets know what their job description is – a holiday in Mexico, all expenses paid, all you can drink, a chance to get laid, the obligation to entertain the (almighty) viewer. Oh and a half chance of winning $¼million. While it's worth something.
Hot chicks (Prancer) in bikinis (Myammee) coupled with hi-jinks (The Entertainer). This is reality at its best (better than Cheaters). I recap it every week and from next week I'll be posting an op-com about it. Because I can do that. Celebrealitydaily gives you the other side: background, behind the scenes, photos. Yeah.
It's all good unclean fun for the audience. I know it's not to everyone's taste. Some people enjoy Trisha. For the record I contest the charges of racism. I've watched enough TV to form my own opinions about un/scripted racism: The Real World. Channel 4.
People will always watch television. After a harassed day at work you have to unwind somehow. It's up to the networks to up their game. In these uncertain economic times the industry should do its duty. With the worse to come for a lot of people TV may become one of the last resorts of affordable entertainment. What the American industry produce the UK and the rest of the world buy. Or rip off. You want scripted dramas? Hire better writers (like me) better producers better execs. Better agents.
Reality TV is a given. I applaud it with most kudos going to Vh1. Because I like what makes me laugh at no expense to others. Wanna be on TV? Enter at your own switch. It's just like blogging. We click. Ad infinitum.
When The Real World was first broadcast on MTV in 1992 it was the dawn of the Reality TV era.
